My very first Bible was given to me by my grandparents. Inside the front cover, handwritten by my grandmother, were these words: “Proverbs 3 verses 5 & 6 25th December 1950” I recall looking up those verses in that Bible “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct thy paths” (KJV)

A heading of one of the articles in a Christian magazine I was recently reading greatly challenged me. It asked “Do you really trust the Lord”

In my training as a chartered accountant in public practice we were taught that to be successful we needed to develop the attributes of a person who could be trusted – that people could be confident in – that people could lean upon – that people could see that our word and advice could be relied upon one hundred percent. We needed to be a person that others would not hesitate to seek a business relationship with. The only one I knew who was like this all the time was my God and he invites all to have a relationship with Him

The question I asked myself was Do I trust the Lord? Do I have absolute confidence in Him? My experience is that I can absolutely trust his words and actions. He is Truth – always the same yesterday, today and forever. But the problem with me is many times I fail to consult with God and wander off on my own way and path. I fail to develop my relationship with Him who is all wisdom and knowledge. And then I wonder, why did it all go wrong?

Two verses for our encouragement. Jeremiah 17 v 7 “Blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence” (NLT ). Then a special sentence of comfort when we struggle with difficulty and great odds is Isaiah 50v 10 “If you are walking in darkness without a ray of light, trust in the Lord and rely on your God” (NLT).

PRAYER : O Lord you are so trustworthy because you are the same all the time. Please forgive me for the times I walk down my own path and have failed to consult you about the way I should take.

Lord this day I renew my trust in you and give thanks that you will be directing my path.

In Jesus name I pray. Amen

Trust in the Lord with all your heart.

Blessings. Richard.
